Mezcal Margarita

The Mezcal Margarita is a simple recipe that focuses on the flavor of the smoky mezcal. You can make the margarita with a more classic taste by added in a little orange juice to your liking. Mezcal Nuestra Soledad, Vicio, or Riazuleno are great joven (young) mezcals. The tall side of a cocktail shot glass is 1.5 oz, and the short side is 0.75 oz.

Ingredients

Mezcal Margarita

  • 2 oz mezcal, preferably smoky/joven
  • 0.75 oz simple syrup
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 0.75 oz orange juice, (optional)

Simple Syrup

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 jalepeno, sliced lengthwise (optional)

Instructions

Mezcal Margarita

  • Add ice to a cocktail shaker
  • Add the mezcal, simple syrup, and lime
  • If adding orange juice, do so with the other ingredients

Simple Syrup

  • Add sugar, water, and jalepeno to a pot
  • Heat on high for 5 minutes, stirring frequently until the sugar disolves
  • Once the sugar disolves remove from heat and pour into a glass container or coffee mug, then chill in fridge
  • After 10 minutes in the fridge it can be used in a cocktail and will keep for about 2 weeks.
