Looking out at the Austrian Alps from run 85 at St. Anton ski resort in Austria

Nestled in the Austrian Alps, St. Anton is a premier skiing destination that delivers an unforgettable winter experience. With its vast ski terrain, vibrant après-ski scene, luxurious accommodations, and exceptional dining options, it’s no wonder skiers from around the world flock to this charming resort town every winter.

Skiing St. Anton: Best Runs and Areas

St. Anton boasts an extensive ski area with runs catering to all skill levels. We particularly enjoyed skiing Rendl, which provided stunning views and excellent snow conditions. Another highlight was taking on Schindler Spitze and skiing down to the St. Christoph area via runs 85 and 77—a thrilling descent with a mix of open stretches and more technical sections. We found Galzig to be the busiest area and with shorter runs we made our to whiter, less crowded pastures.

Snow conditions in January are typically excellent, with fresh powder falling regularly. During our visit we experienced bluebird skies every day, but no fresh snow. Despite the lack of a fresh snowfall the snow quality remained excellent. We stuck with groomed runs for a smoother ride, but we could only imagine how great the wide open ungroomed sections would be after a fresh foot of snow.

The view of the valley from the slopes of Kapall at St. Anton ski resort in Austria

The other incredible aspect of skiing St. Anton are the views. With clear skies prevailing throughout our stay the valley floor to mountain peak vistas were spectacular, especially from the Kapall peak where the scenes were outstanding. The crisp mountain air and stunning alpine backdrop make skiing here not just a sport, but an immersive experience.

Dining in St. Anton: A Culinary Delight

After long days on the slopes, we indulged in some fantastic food across St. Anton’s many restaurants.

Lunch

  • Galzig Lodge – A great place for a hearty Austrian lunch with traditional dishes to refuel for the afternoon.
  • Rendl Lodge – Another fantastic slopeside lunch option with satisfying fare.
  • Spar Supermarket – If you’re looking for a quick and inexpensive bite, the wraps from the local Spar were a great find.

Dinner

  • Restaurant Hazienda – A standout dining experience where we enjoyed seafood pasta and perfectly cooked lamb loin. Reservation recommended.
  • Anthony’s Happy Valley Steakhouse – This spot served up one of the best burgers we’ve had on a ski trip. Reservation recommended, but we were able to walk in.
  • Galzig Bistro Bar – The veal schnitzel here was outstanding—crispy, tender, and full of flavor. Walk up only, no reservations.

For those looking to explore more of the Austrian cuisine, St. Anton offers everything from hearty alpine meals to gourmet dining. Local specialties like Käsespätzle (Austrian mac and cheese) and Speck (cured pork ham), which we purchased to take with us at Handl Tyrol Speck Stube St. Anton. The selection of local wines and beers adds to the culinary experience, making dining in St. Anton as memorable as the skiing itself.

Après-Ski: The Best Spots to Unwind

St. Anton is famous for its après-ski culture, and we made sure to take full advantage of it.

  • MooserWirt – This legendary après-ski spot delivered an unforgettable party atmosphere with great music and lively crowds.
  • Rendl Beach Bar – A perfect spot to relax with a drink while enjoying panoramic views of the big air terrain park.
  • Base Camp – A decent stop for après-ski, though it didn’t quite match the energy of MooserWirt.

The après-ski scene in St. Anton is truly one of the best in the world. Whether you prefer a wild party atmosphere or a laid-back drink with a view, there’s something for everyone. Live DJs, energetic crowds, and flowing drinks create an electric atmosphere that keeps the fun going long after the lifts close.

Where to Stay: Luxury at m3Hotel

During our visit, we stayed at m3Hotel, which turned out to be the perfect base for a ski getaway. Located in the heart of St. Anton, the hotel provided a seamless blend of comfort and convenience.

One of the standout features was the exquisite breakfast, which offered a selection of fresh breads, pastries, cheeses, meats, and cooked-to-order eggs, ensuring we started each day energized for the slopes. In the afternoon, an indulgent snack spread was laid out—perfect for refueling after a long day of skiing.

The rooms were spacious, offering a modern and cozy retreat where we could relax in comfort. After an intense day on the mountain, the spa area was a true haven, with saunas and relaxation spaces that helped ease sore muscles and prepare us for another day of adventure.

The service at m3Hotel was top-notch, with friendly staff always ready to provide recommendations or assist with any needs. The location made it easy to access the ski lifts, and the overall experience made our trip even more enjoyable.
